Emy Thiran is an artist, educator and art writer based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She received her BFA from the University of Bridgeport, Connecticut (USA), Master of Art from University of Malaya and later a PhD in Art History from University Sains Malaysia. She has been teaching design, visual art studies and art history in various universities while freelancing as a graphic designer. She is the author of Living Art: The Inspired Lives of 14 Malaysian Artists & their Art Practice (Areca Books 2020).
 
"My art is inspired by nature and the beauty of everyday living. They are also my life stories based on my experiences and recollections of people, spaces and places.Art reminds us that the ordinary stuff we do every day is meaningful and beautiful when we do them with gratitude. Art helps us slow down, reflect and live in the moment. Abstract art conveys feelings and thoughts that cannot be fully described with words or objects. It emphasizes the sensorial and intuitive aspects of experience. My hope is that my abstract works will nurture a collective sense of optimism and open our hearts to a renewed joy for living."
